From my perspective as someone passionate about hospitality, with several years of hotel management experience behind me, I believe that one of the greatest challenges in our industry is
continuously raising service standards. Excellence is not a destination, but an ongoing journey that requires an unwavering commitment to continuous improvement. That is why today I would like to share some reflections and strategies on how we can achieve new levels of quality in the guest experience.
First and foremost, it is essential to
foster an organisational culture focused on guest service. Every team member, from housekeeping staff to senior management, must embrace the mindset that every interaction with a guest is an opportunity to make a difference. This means
investing in staff training and development, ensuring they are equipped with the skills needed to exceed guest expectations at every touchpoint.
Likewise, to achieve service excellence, it is essential to
develop automated processes that optimise internal operations and minimise the possibility of errors. Technology plays a crucial role in this regard, from advanced hotel management systems to internal communication tools that facilitate coordination between departments. However, it is not simply a matter of adopting the latest technology, but of integrating it effectively into daily operations to improve efficiency and service quality.
In this regard, a quotation that resonates deeply with me and which I believe encapsulates the essence of our pursuit of excellence is:
"Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of intelligent effort". These words by John Ruskin remind us that excellence is not the result of chance, but of a constant commitment to improvement and innovation.
To raise service standards and achieve excellence, I believe it is important to focus on the following key areas:
1. Ongoing staff training:
To this end, it is essential to provide professional development opportunities and offer regular training that enables staff to acquire and enhance the skills required to deliver exceptional service.
1. Identifying training needs: The first step in the ongoing training process is to identify the areas in which staff need to improve or develop skills. This can be achieved through performance appraisals, direct observation of guest interactions, and feedback from employees themselves. By understanding specific training needs, programmes can be designed to effectively address weaknesses and strengthen existing skills.
