Are We Creating Value—or Just Volume?

In modern hospitality, filling rooms does not always mean creating value. This article challenges the industry’s obsession with volume and asks an uncomfortable but necessary question: are we building brand equity and sustainable profitability, or simply generating traffic? A strategic reflection on moving from a culture of “more” to a culture of “better.”

There is one question that has followed me for years, especially in conversations with owners, investors and commercial teams: are we creating real value, or simply generating volume? On the surface, the answer seems obvious. If the hotel is full, the restaurant is turning tables nonstop, and the spa cannot keep up at weekends, everything is going well. Or is it?

The Hospitality industry is obsessed with volume metrics. Occupancy, RevPAR, number of events, covers served, social media followers, leads generated. They are essential metrics, without question. But when volume becomes the sole strategic compass, we begin to lose something deeper: brand consistency, a differentiated guest experience and, above all, sustainable profitability.
