Aligning HR Strategy with Hotel Business Goals

THE IDEA

In hospitality, a disconnect between HR and business strategy is a risk hotels cannot afford to ignore. A recent study found that more than 80% of HR leaders are not aligned with their organisation’s overall goals, creating internal friction and limiting innovation. The solution is to position HR as a strategic business partner: involve HR in key decisions from the outset, use technology to map skills, and build a culture of collaboration with hotel leadership. In an industry where guest experience depends directly on team engagement, this alignment is essential to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving market.

When I think about the strategic challenges facing the hotel industry, one phrase comes to mind: “A misaligned team cannot deliver an unforgettable experience.” In this sector, any disconnect between business strategy and talent management can have devastating consequences. However, this is not a problem exclusive to hotels. A recent study conducted by 3Sixty Insights and Eightfold AI has revealed that more than 80% of Human Resources leaders are not aligned with their organisations’ business strategy. How does this disconnect affect hospitality, and what can we do to address it?

In a hotel, departments do not operate in silos. Talent management, commercial strategy, and the guest experience are interconnected. Yet, according to the study, only 18% of companies effectively coordinate business strategy, collaboration with executive leadership, and talent strategy. This misalignment not only creates internal friction, but also limits our ability to innovate and respond to changing market needs.
