The obsession with competitors is one of the silent ailments of contemporary hospitality. It makes no noise, it generates no headlines, yet it erodes margins, identity and culture, turning many hotels into interchangeable versions of their surroundings.

I have attended too many meetings where the conversation begins and ends in the same way: “What is the hotel across the street charging?”
