Profitability and sustainability are two concepts that, in hospitality, are often confused or used interchangeably. But in my experience, understanding the difference is essential to building hotels that not only generate revenue, but also endure, inspire and evolve.
For a long time, the pressure to achieve immediate profitability has driven many decisions in our hotels. Costs are cut, teams are reduced, services are eliminated, and aggressive pricing strategies are prioritised to fill rooms at any price. And yes, the numbers may add up at the end of the month. But at what cost? What do we leave behind when we focus solely on short-term results?
