Hotel Value Proposition (1): What It Means to Have One—or Not

THE IDEA

Defining and embedding a strong hotel value proposition is only the beginning. It requires consistency, creativity and strategic vision across every area of hotel management. A value proposition is not a slogan—it is the backbone of the guest experience, communications, pricing and commercial strategy. Hotels that cannot clearly communicate what makes them unique are pushed to compete on price alone, sacrificing margin and relevance. By contrast, hotels that build their identity around a differentiated proposition can drive loyalty, support premium rates and turn guests into brand advocates. This series explores how to make that happen, step by step.

Whenever I speak with colleagues about how to stand out in such a crowded market, the concept of a hotel value proposition inevitably comes up. We hear it at conferences, read about it in articles and repeat it in team meetings. But, honestly, how many hotels have truly defined and implemented a unique, differentiating value proposition? I would venture to say very few. This gap between rhetoric and reality is what has prompted me to launch a series of articles devoted exclusively to this subject, with the aim of exploring in depth how to build, communicate and sustain a value proposition that genuinely connects with our guests.

Over the coming weeks, I will share insights, real-life cases and practical tools I have gathered throughout my career. We will analyse, step by step, how to define what makes a hotel truly unique, beyond its facilities or seasonal discounts. We will see how a clear value proposition not only attracts more guests, but also makes it possible to justify premium rates, increase loyalty and, above all, leave a lasting impression in the guest's memory.
