Hotel Value Proposition (9): How to Communicate It Effectively

THE IDEA

Learn how hotels can communicate their value proposition effectively through their website, visual content, social media, advertising, relationship marketing and email marketing—helping prevent low occupancy, guest dissatisfaction and poor online reputation.

The hotel industry is one of the most competitive in the world. Hotels compete to attract guests by offering a unique and memorable experience. To achieve this, hotels must communicate their value proposition effectively to prospective guests. In this article, we will explore how hotels can communicate their value proposition effectively. It can happen—and in fact, I have come across several cases—where a hotel has a strong value proposition but does not communicate it in the right way, so, in such cases, what happens?:
  1. Low occupancy: Although the hotel has an attractive offering, prospective guests are unaware of it and therefore do not book.
  2. Dissatisfied guests: Guests may expect an experience that does not match the hotel’s offering, resulting in an unsatisfactory stay.
  3. Poor online reputation: Dissatisfied guests may leave negative reviews online, affecting the hotel’s reputation and reducing its appeal to future guests.
  4. Lower revenue: If the hotel fails to communicate its value proposition properly, it may not attract guests willing to pay a fair price for the services offered, resulting in lower revenue.
  5. Difficulty differentiating from the competition: In a highly competitive market, a lack of clear and effective communication of the value proposition can make the hotel less relevant and less differentiated from other similar hotels.
In light of these facts, the general tendency is to think that the reasons lie in external factors, such as the market, the economic situation or the competition, when they actually lie in the hotel’s own marketing and communications. A hotel’s value proposition is what makes it unique and different from other hotels. It is what attracts guests and makes them choose one particular hotel. A hotel’s value proposition may include a range of factors, such as location, facilities, guest service, room quality and food, among others.

Communicating a Hotel’s Value Proposition

Communicating a hotel’s value proposition is essential to attract guests and keep them satisfied. Here are some ways hotels can communicate their value proposition effectively:

1. Hotel website

The hotel website is one of the most important tools for communicating a hotel’s value proposition. The website should be easy to navigate and provide clear, detailed information about the hotel’s facilities, services and rooms. Photos and videos are also important for showing guests what they can expect when staying at the hotel.

Photography and video are crucial elements in the promotion and advertising of any hotel. Through these visual tools, prospective guests can gain a clear and accurate idea of what they can expect from their hotel experience.
