Rights, Fairness and Equity in Hotel People Management: A Delicate Balance

THE IDEA

In hospitality, exercising an individual right should not create unfairness for others. Like cutting a cake, one poorly considered decision can affect everyone’s share. Salary increases, time off and additional benefits must be assessed for their wider impact on the team and the hotel’s sustainability. The goal is to build an equitable culture in which employees receive what they deserve without disadvantaging colleagues or the business. Transparent leadership, fair policies and a focus on the common good help hotels operate as harmonious ecosystems.

The balance between individual rights and collective justice is a fundamental principle in any society, and in hospitality, this balance becomes even more critical.

Every hotel employee has rights: to fair pay, a dignified working environment and recognition for their efforts. However, when the assertion of these rights is exercised disproportionately or without considering the impact on others, harmony is disrupted and the system begins to fail.
