Stories That Sell More Than the Product

We often look to major brands for inspiration, but one of the most powerful lessons in guest experience can come from a local market: showing the faces and telling the stories of the people behind a product transforms its perceived value. In hospitality, humanising service does not require a large budget—just sensitivity and vision.

There are places that inspire through their simplicity. Walking through the market in Faro, Portugal, you do not expect to find a profound lesson in the guest experience. Yet all it takes is looking up at the portraits of José, Antonietta, Katja or Tiago—local producers and vendors displayed on the market walls—to understand that human connection remains at the heart of every meaningful experience.
In hospitality, we are often drawn to the models of major corporations such as Apple or Mercedes, believing that inspiration must come from the giants. But you do not have to be big to understand what good service means. All it takes is observing those who have understood that trust is born from a familiar face, a human gesture, the story behind every product… or room.
