The misgivings of some executives at many hotels regarding the way society is evolving in terms of behavioural habits are symptomatic of a corporate culture that is under threat and challenged by nothing less than the market itself. A conservative, defensive resistance that takes refuge in power, fuelled by the organisation’s hierarchical, top-down control, and that stifles freedom and the development of human capital within the company.
Some executives overlook the fact that a new decentralised, open and shared form of power, based on merit and creation, is gaining ground strongly within organisations, and they fear losing power if they lose control.
