From Reach to Relevance

THE IDEA

In the new era of B2B marketing, independent hotels are learning that visibility alone is no longer enough. Success is defined not by reach, but by relevance: the ability to build authentic, consistent and valuable relationships with the partners that matter most.

For years, many of us independent hoteliers confused reach with influence. We believed that reaching more people meant being more visible, and that being everywhere guaranteed results. But digital noise and advertising saturation have taught us a valuable lesson: speaking more does not mean communicating better. Today, what truly matters is not who hears us, but who listens to us. In an environment where B2B decisions are made with discernment, data and purpose, mass communication has lost relevance; what matters now is the relevance of the message and the credibility of the person delivering it.

I have seen too many independent hotels invest significant effort in campaigns designed for “reach” rather than “affinity”. Influencers were hired, ads multiplied, and social media feeds were filled with generic content that barely conveyed the essence of the hotel. The result was predictable: visibility without impact. The truth is that awareness without consistency does not build a brand, let alone strong B2B relationships. The shift came when we understood that modern marketing is not a loudspeaker, but a conversation between professionals who share values, objectives and trust.
