The AIDA Model: Turning Traveller Interest into Hotel Bookings

Capturing a traveller’s attention is no longer enough. The real challenge is guiding them from the first visual impression to a completed booking. The AIDA model—Attention, Interest, Desire and Action—helps hotels understand the guest decision-making journey and optimise every stage to drive bookings and build guest loyalty.

In previous articles, we explored the importance of defining an appropriate strategic framework for hotel management and examined in detail a range of tools and approaches for structuring a hotel’s marketing and positioning decisions. Among these frameworks, we highlighted the potential of the AIDA Model, which is particularly useful for understanding and optimising the process that takes the guest from the first point of contact through to the final booking. More recently, in the article “Porter’s Five Forces in a Hotel’s Competitive Strategy”, we explored how analysing the competitive environment enables hoteliers to identify threats and opportunities, refine their offering and build a strong position in crowded markets. While this approach is essential to understanding market structure, we must not lose sight of the fact that, once positioned, we must effectively guide the guest towards making a purchase.
This is where the AIDA Model (Attention, Interest, Desire and Action) becomes especially relevant. If competitive analysis helps us position ourselves on the playing field, the AIDA model provides the roadmap to attract the traveller, capture their attention, spark their interest and turn their desire into a confirmed booking.
